Football star Brendan Fevola has been accused of sexually harassing a Melbourne journalist during his drunken binge at the Brownlow Medal presentation.
And, on the day Fevola was officially was traded to the Brisbane Lions, the AFL said it was willing to take action against the disgraced former Carlton player if it received an official complaint.
In explosive allegations that threaten anew to destroy Fevola's career, a Herald-Sun journalist was allegedly approached and sexually intimidated by the new Brisbane Lions recruit in a toilet at Crown Casino after the medal count.
Herald-Sun editor-in-chief Phil Gardner said he was focusing on the welfare of the woman and the paper's only concern was the reporter's "well-being and health".
"Our reporter was attending the Brownlow as a representative of the Herald-Sun in a working capacity," he said. "All employees are entitled to feel secure in their workplace.
"In accordance with our strong workplace policies and practices, the Herald-Sun has provided a wide range of support and services to our reporter."
Mr Gardner said Herald-Sun management had kept the AFL and other relevant parties regularly updated since the alleged incident.
Radio 3AW presenter Neil Mitchell today said several sources had told him Fevola followed the woman into the toilet and physically intimidated and groped her.
"Brendan Fevola has been accused of, at the very least, sexually harassing and arguably assaulting and intimidating a female Herald-Sun journalist," he said.
Mitchell said it was a "disgraceful, offensive, dangerous" incident that had left the journalist distressed.
"It certainly was of a sexual nature, although whether it's legally sexual assault you could argue about it," he said.
The woman is not believed to have made a complaint to police.
AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson today said the league was aware of the alleged incident and had spoken to the woman and her employer.
He said the woman had not made an official complaint.
A Carlton spokesman said he could not comment on what he had only heard as a rumour.
"There's been, I reckon, 100 rumours, ranging from that to him weeing on someone else to throwing up on someone else to pulling someone else's top down," he said.
"You don't know what's fact from fiction."
He said he was not aware of the Herald-Sun contacting the club about the alleged incident.
Fevola's trade to the Brisbane Lions became official today.
The Coleman Medal winner was fined $10,000 by Carlton Football Club and put up for trade following his drunken antics at the Brownlow count.
