Posts: 1933 29-Jun-2009 15:32:13	Tags : None Now they often get talked up as one, but this game truly is a blockbuster. Will be in front of 80,000+ fans, both clubs are a genuine shot at the top 4 and we are fast approaching the pointy end of the season. A loss here could derail either side. According to all the media and fans we have only beaten "nobodies", so this is a great chance to show we can dominate a team in the top 8. And more importantly, it is a chance to finally put that ANZAC day fiasco behind us... It still gives me nightmares. Looks like Davis will definitely come back in, while Pendles is an outside chance. You would think Goldsack, Dawes and Cox are all walking on thin ice. My tip is Pies by 30.

Jobe Watson is out and he is there best clearance player which might mean they will be short of players in that department

Posts: 80 29-Jun-2009 23:18:07	I've been hosing down expectations for weeks now, but even I reckon we're better than this mob. They're mid table fodder. I'd put us a notch or two higher. But they are fast and they do care (unlike, say, Freo) and have some strengths and confidence on their side. But. really, unless we see more brain freezes of the type that plagued us against them last time, the 4 points should be safe. We are due a loss but I expect it to come the following week against a genuine top 4 side.

McVeigh suspended by the club for a week due to missing a training session after being out "socialising" according to the Hun. Hirdy's love child can kiss the captaincy goodbye now. Exposes their mids alot more now without those 2 though having said that the Fab 4 of the blooze didnt' seem to be able to take advantage of it.

Posts: 2872 30-Jun-2009 13:04:16	Just back from Windy Hill from Bumblers training. Must say I was generally underwhelmed by their session. I know its very windy today but their skills by foot with no pressure were shocking. Knights as opposed to MM takes almost all the drills with the Dons assistants doing SFA. Knights called them in numerous times. I couldn't believe how handball focussed their training is compared to the Pies kicking style and most of the their training is very unaccountable with little to no pressure. Alwyn Davey had a significant bandage on his right knee and favoured his right leg noticably and didn't take part in any of the running/match practice work. He basically walked a lap then proceeded to be part of the numerous standing handball drills. McPhee trained fully and Hurley did limited training. My prediction this week is another good game from Beams earning him recognition for Round 14 and becoming our eighth rising star since 2006.

Posts: 1934 30-Jun-2009 17:34:00	Yep McVeigh and Watson out are big blows for the Dons. If we can stop Lovett running amok in the midfield we should be ok. I think Toovey would be well suited to a run with role on him, although not too sure on who to man Monfries up forward. Would have been a good match-up for Clarke, but might have to use Shaw instead. Presti to Lloyd and Brown to Lucas with Maxwell third man up. I like those match-ups. I really don't see any reason we shouldn't win this comfortably. I just hope the players don't have that attitude.

Forget that ridiculous free and 50m penalty. We should have had them dead and buried long before then. I don't buy the story that their pace is better than hours. Our structure now is built around fast movement. We have the bigger bodied mids too compared to them. Watson is a huge loss. Massive. McVeigh is just the bonus. O'Brien will go to Lucas. Presti to Lloyd. If we don't smash this mob we should be ashamed of ourselves. I would seriously consider bringing Wood back in to apply more pressure to Ryder and not let him have a free run. Do the rotations with Fraser and Brown and try and drag Ryder into defence. We are better skilled overall than them and the wet weather should really highlight it.

We are a good defensive team though, backline is in form and we are getting smarter at our ball transfer down the ground. I think we can really clamp down on a few of their damaging players this time around, plus boss them a bit more in the centre square. Really dislike when we play with 3-4 tall forwards, let alone on a windy and wet night. Its business time of the year, we have to seriously look at stop carrying dead weight, Dawes is not ready yet for one, L Brown if we have any balls we should also be looking at axing seriously also. Bring in a few more midgets, I have a feeling Steele might lap up the conditions Friday. PS Really liked this motto from the age today, apparently the Dons had it on their walls a while ago: ""Measure your greatness by how mighty your enemy is." Would be nice if some of our fans could take this in mind before talking flags.

Its up to the players, their talent and their belief. Fans mean jack shit really. I believe they can win a flag this year but that makes absolutely no difference to if they achieve this.
