TARZ i agree but as you say come finals time that has been our achilles 02 - 03 - and ottens touched us up in a final as well. I know he has been bagged a lot here and everywhere else and that is THE ANVIL but i think he has been getting better and very handy the last few weeks - and he does put his body on the line and doesnt shirk any contests.

Posts: 9330 27-Jun-2009 23:05:20	as for beating nothing, this was the same Freo side that played Geelong quite well last week. I thought we would be a 4 goal better side today, max. Our forward line set up is the most potent it has been in seventeen years, if we can break even in the middle, and cut down on the crabbing, we will beat any team.

Posts: 4388 28-Jun-2009 01:38:32	Tarz, to be fair, Geelong are on auto pilot at the moment. They do just enough to beat teams without hitting anything more than 75% exertion. CLEARLY they are saving themselves for bigger fish come September. Freo have been dropping games to the likes of Richmond FFS. It was wonderful to watch today, but we will rarely get that kind of latitude again this year. It was champaign football with a heap of lairising....others will not afford us that luxury in teh run home. The desperate dog-fight starts from this Friday - don't kid yourself - 4th spot is not parcelled up at all at the moment. Alot of footy to play yet. The Dude

Never in my lifetime have I seen so many Pie players with great finishing skills - Medhurst, Anthony, Didak, Dick, Davis (and Cloke has improved out of sight).

Don't get me wrong - last q was fun - but flattered us. They were gone. We're making plenty of errors under pressure. Ruck deficiencies NOT a moot point! Famous last words. Would a flag contender really be worried about beating the scum at the G next week?

Freo was ripe for the plucking and all we did for 3 quarters was match them, considering their effort Vs the Cats last week the last quarter was everything required by us against a team that had nothing left in the tank. I'm still not convinced, although the call I got as I walked to the car from someone who should know tipped me more to think we could be a contender but I'll wait and see how we play this Friday.

We have a bad habit of getting in front and leaving it at that. We should rip their Adam's apples out and watch them drown in their own blood. We did this time. It's great to see someone like Dick tackling the opposition. A baby in football terms but with no fear. It is even better when someone like C3 does it. MM should show him the video of that tackle immediately before every game. Don't just tackle them. Try and kill them. Drive them down to the MCG underground tanks. Dewd!!!!! Champaign football? Are you saying the last five weeks have been a Champagne campaign?

It will be a nice challenge, especially against arguably our 4 biggest "bogey" teams of the last few years. I just want to know what happens if the half ruckman Josh does get injured early in a game?

Posts: 1929 28-Jun-2009 12:10:28	People will go on about Pavlich being out, but we had argueably our two best midfielders in Pendlebury and Davis on the sidelines. Both are a big chance to return this week and hopefully Clarke can regain some touch in the 2's. Good to see Didak and Swan continue to dominate. Surely Swanny will be right up there in the brownlow. Good for Medhurst to get some touch and regain some fitness while I also thought Clokes workrate was very good. Dick has added another dimension to the forward line and really invigorated the team. Jack Anthony is a star. Gets the absolute best out of himself. Still never gone without a goal in a game! Our back 6 as are good as any in the league. We now have the confidence so this week will be a great test against a team we should have buried earlier in the year. INS: Davis OUTS: Goldsack If Pendlebury comes up also omit Cox or Dawes. Dawes looked average but I wouldn't mind seeing him get one more crack.

Posts: 423 28-Jun-2009 13:08:23	loved the attacking handball of halfback. in my eyes the key to a massive flag tilt. 200 kicks and 175 handballs is the average output that i want from this current team. throw in 110 marks (15 contested) and we'll be very competitive against the top2. rucks still a worry. did what we should have and looking forward to this week. cox on pav early was good. can see him playing a wing role verse essendon. which would be nice. c3 wasnt as good as some have been posting. still cant mark from back position. id drop him for leon then rinse repeat this friday.

If he is making steps towards the form that made him the finals player in 07 than we are a real shot at a flag. Maybe it is better that his form slump was at the start of the year than finals...

Midfield has certainly improved this year; Swanny better than ever (It will be very hard to not give this guy a spot on the AA bench) and is Didak threatening to become a bona fide mid? Gotta love what Wellingham and Dick adds to the side - lets hope they can keep it up. Our defense is in good shape, although agree with Mick we gave up a few too many cheap goals. Maxwell and Harry in particular are also in career best form now. Dawes is one too tall many IMO, and he just isn't a good enough at ground level to make up for the marks he drops. Medhurst is virtually a 'tall' anyway the way he plays. Lets give the Dons a taste of our midget bigade next week and see how they handle it.

Posts: 1304 28-Jun-2009 13:22:07	Not sure what all the fuss is about the top 4, we could quite conceivably miss the 8. Next 6 games against top 8 teams if you include Carlton. Now you can see how much Adel and Ess losses hurt us. Next week pivitol, going to be wet and windy. Am tipping one on one old fashioned footy as when we went 1on 1 on Anzac Day we slammed on 5 consecutive goals and stifled their run, which normally would have been the end of it. I like our wins the last 5 weeks, firstly a big part has been Maxwell, been super in defence and rebounds well. Second is MM, credit to him, obviously taken a leaf out of Neil Craigs book and realised slow, stagnant chipping play achieves fuck all these days. And thirdly our whole attitude has changed for the better, complete contrast to the Carlton game where no one gave a fuck. And the other thing is that instead of looking flat at this time of year like we usually do, we look sharp and our flat patch was against St Kilda and Carlton when we had no intensity at all. Quick note also to Cloke, well done. Not a superstar by any stretch but showed good intent yesterday for the first time this year. Rufus Dawes and the Sack for Davis and Pendles will pretty see us at full strength..

We have one of the best backlines, the best midfields, and one of the best forward lines in the comp. We should be aiming for top four and a shot at a flag. Swan, Didak, Davis and Pendles is a fab four in the middle. Than their is some depth with O'Bree, Wellingham, Lockyer, Beams, Thomas. If their is anything we lack it is a Burns in the middle. Just wich Beams was a couple of year older and bigger bodied. A ten goal last quarter, a nine goal quarter against the Power. There is a theme starting to develop. We have an explosive forward line, whereby so many players are capable of kicking goals. I am waiting for a bag of goals for Anthony but I will have to keep waiting and waiting, the forard line is too diverse for it to be a one man show. He will kick a bag one day though. I think I might listen to the VFL game on the radio today as they confirm what I have been saying, that we have depth... Ahhhh life as a Collingwood supporter is great!!! Enjoy the streak guys, and when Santo says flag is the talk of the town, given the accuracy of some of my predictions you should have goosebumps...
