His discovery is (was) an important one. His fossil is a missing link - between lemurs and - um - lemurs. And IDers are jumping all over it. Like lemurs. Gotta laugh. I reckon his discovery is significant, but he's taken a leaf from some other scientists. When Science Politics and Faith mix, science will ALWAYS be the loser. I feel your pain cli. Mate, it's plain daft. I think the best example of the ID response can be found in Bolta's thread on it. He opens it up to take a swipe at AGW, and
whaddya know. I wonder how uncomfortable that makes him feel, seeing as he proclaims his agnosticism (albeit not too loudly in blogworld)?
Regardless, following on from that idiotic New Scientist cover a couple of months ago, this is a (minor) pain in the arse. In terms of importance, it has more significance than simply as a transitional between lemurs. The completeness of the fossil, its age and lineage ensure that... however, to spout 'missing link' crap about anything does precisely nothing to improve general scientific illiteracy in the public sphere.
