marvel, they pretty much apply the zone straight back at their opponents, ie a good spread on both wings and through the centre. they are prepared to go wide
till they get it outside 50 before switching to run through the middle, unless (and here's the key) they spot someone free in the centre, even inside their
defensive 50. big difference between us and them is they actually LOOK for these targets, and then hit them.
then they run in waves from behind, overlapping from left and right, so they always have a handball option. they time their run to be passing the guy marking or receiving the handball as the ball's getting there, so even when under pressure they always have a couple of options. not rocket science, but well executed and its breathtaking to watch live, they're taking the game to another level.
of course it helps having guys with the footskills of hodge, dew, guerra, gilham, young, ellis coming out of the backline, and guys like cyril, bateman, mitchell to propel it forward.
yes, cyril is fucking amazing. already a bonafide star. he never loses his feet, reads the game brilliantly and super smarts. i go to so many hawks games with my mate cos they have 3 of my fave players in the comp to watch - buddy, cyril and hodge.
they only have one guy you'd call a spud in their lineup - murphy, and he is only backup till croad comes back (maybe renouf as well, lively around the ground though and a bit of mongrel). forgot they still have osborne out too, even their new kids like whitecross seem to fit in seamlessly.
brilliantly drilled in their gameplan, led by 2 stars in mitchell & hodge (he is always directing players where to go etc when play is stopped or at the other end), in a nutshell, a fucking scary side. i know it sounds like i have some man-love going for the hawks - that would be because i do. if we were half as exciting to watch as they are i'd be happy.
