The furphy I am not so sure about...guys bombed at Pearl harbour probably do not feel the same antagonism as those that lived through the Thai-Burma railroad.

All the guys I knew who had relatives go through that horror have very, very hard feelings towards the Japanese who do not even acknowledge any guilt over it.

I hate to drag others into it, but Canberra here would be able to tell you how his brother feels about it...and indeed, how he feels about it.

Let me tell you, my grandfathers brother fought as an Australian soldier in New Guinea and Borneo against the Japanese...and let me tell you, after what he saw of guys who were wounded and butchered and mutilated by the retreating Japanese...he hated the Japs even more than he hated Greeks until the day he died.

My grandfathers brother was offered a grave in the military section of the cemetary, but his son and wife (she was in her mid 80's) declined in favour of being buried in the Orthodox section. They regretted it soon afterwards when some Greek hoons vandalized his head stone simply because it listed his place of birth as Macedonia on the headstone along with his Australian military service etc.

He died in 1992 and I miss him everyday.

I am not having a go at ya champ - but you are second guessing what the alternatives MAY have been.

If this has been a bubble "30 years in the making" - well most of that 30 years Republican Presidents were in power - so how is all that Obama's fault?

I am sure you will find a reason why Obama could have begun his lifes work back in teh Reagan years to have prevented all this - but I am not buying it.

The extreme right were the architects of this screw up - and now they are scurrying for cover seeking to aportion blame onto ANYONE but their own shoulders.

Yeah, Obama hasn't inspired much confidence - but my premise is that irrespective of who was in now - be it McCain George W, Hilary etc - not much different would have been done.

I also doubt that even if someone did try something different at this point of time, that there would be any great change in the course of events.

You are damned if you do and damned if you don't.

You introduce a stimulus package and people will accuse you of squandering money. If you do not do anything at all, then the same people will argue that (insert name here) would have splashed the cash to get things moving.

I am not sure that there is particularly a right or wrong answer.
