Politically shrewd.
He won't need to bring in the 25% cut because there's no way there'll be agreement to that at Copenhagen. Meanwhile in Aus he can blame the senate for blocking the ETS (which would have been extremely difficult politically). He can still (plausibly) hold on to the holier high ground while pointing the finger at others. I probably should start a new thread. The Libs & Nats have painted themselves into a corner in this, and have become largely irrelevant except as a source of brownie points for the government. ETS dead in the water, the way Rudd now wants it. And he can say it's the fault of others. |

Its all BS Ev and the worm is turning. Everyday another scientific study comes out that disproves the theories of these terrorists. Ice sheets are expanding,
not contracting, Polar Bear population expanding, global temperatatures falling. List goes on and on and yet we the sensationlist media still refuses to
provide the evidence that it is yet another smoking heap of crap.

btw, on my desk as part of a green initaitive, there was a bottle of Marina Barrage mineral water on my desk. It's taken them less than 3 years to build a
water processing plant at the mouth of their largest storm water drain, and I'm guzzling a bottle of water from it.
water need not be a problem. |

Guess who's been nominated to the University Environmental Committee.
[well, nobody else would volunteer] It will be interesting trying to keep them on track with genuine issues (like wastage, garbage, etc) and away from fluff. I suspect I'll be dodging a noose before too long |

It isn't just the radicals you'd expect that seem blinded. A colleague of mine in IT happily showed me that they had indeed researched how
environmentally friendly our printer paper was. It was made from plantation trees (good) in Finland. Not wanting to argue (or waste ammunition) I made no
comment regarding transport.
I'm not going to rant. There is significant unnecessary waste that can be cut into. Just yesterday I collected the mail for my office. In the mail was a bundle of envelopes addressed to individual staff members. Some of them (about half) received two. The envelopes contained a brochure from our internal marketing department telling us how culturally diverse our University is. I'll break it down: The Uni Marketing department printed, enveloped, labelled and sent a brochure (or two)... ...advertising something that every staff member here already knows... ...to every staff member of the university. The "aim" of this committee is to reduce the "environmental footprint" of the University. I'll suggest using email is a start, and that driving a VU badged Prius as an advertisement of our "greenness" is not. |

I'm going to give it a real go, Cli. There is so much waste going on here, and I want to focus on that. I fear that the committee is all about marketing us as a "green" university. The first meeting will be enlightening. If anyone has any genuine ideas about how a university can reduce its negative environmental footprint, please post the idea. Cutting down on the internal fliers is one thing, using paper produced locally (from local managed forests) is another. More rubbish bins and strategically placed ash trays. Co-ordinating projects so that re-concreting paths doesn't have to happen three times in six months. More greenhouse gases are released from marketing sandbox sessions than from our chemistry labs, Cli. I can make a difference, even as an AGW sceptic, so long as I can get the rest to focus on real problems which we can fix. The advertising Prius exists. There are at least three of them. They are a waste unless it is it all about marketing. |

What is the point of trying to save the planet?
When people won't even try and save themselves.........."Stategically placed ash trays." Stategically placing used syringes upright would be just as arbitrary. |

I was actually being half serious... fume extraction hoods are shockers for power usage when the sash is left up- particularly because most labs are maintained
at negative pressure.

Ev, room lighting. Install movement sensors in photocopy rooms, dunnys etc. Was in an office in Germany where the entire joint was running on movement / light
censors...weird having these lights turn off as you walked past in a long corridor. Remove as many fluro tubes as possible in offices with exposure to window
sunlight
no color ink cartridges and have teachers no longer mark students on fancy pants presentations. B&W should always be OK. |

If this global warming crappola was not so serious it would be the greatest joke of all time. Temperatures are falling all over the world and have been for
7 years yet the govts keep spending like crazy. Imagine if that money had been spent on actually doing something other than taxing the air. Funnily enough Al
Gore's home town just recorded its coldest day on record. If there is a god he is laughing at these arse clowns (along with anyone able to excercise
independent thought).

Download her "Sceptics Handbook", Pubs. It's on her website.
It's not a scientific document by any stretch, but it answers a few questions and asks a heap more. |

Ev, seen it, also I have read Pilmers book which is a very hard read and does contain some inconsistencies. But if you can read it and not come away with
serious doubts then you are living in an alternate universe. It uses a lot of logic ie we have had ice ages before so maybe there is a cycle going on?
This is also pretty funny: http://www.tulsabeacon.com/?p=462 or if you want the direct link to the petition: http://www.petitionproject.org/gw_article/GWReview_OISM150.pdf
