Take a look at the HoF panel - no wonder he wasn't made a legend, Collingwood haters one and all. Seems to be a few conflicting criteria at play - the AFL spouts on about percentages and player/coach contributions whilst the actual criteria talks about significant contribution to the game on which there can be no dispute.

Posts: 424 19-May-2009 11:02:24	bh, that point would only be relevant if they were asking Lou to be put on the AFL Team of the Century. If the argument was he is not even a legend at Collingwood, then THAT would be relevant. However, he is an official Legend at Collingwood. When Tim Lane, Caro Wilson, Mike Sheahan Patrick Smith and KB sit on the selection committee, the anti-Collingwood bias is evident. It is not as if the AFL does not have an anti-Collingwood bias track record with the Team of the Century. Parkin who sat on THAT selection committee admitted on FOXTEL last year that he had the deciding vote between Silvagni and Regan as full back and as the conflicted coach of Silvagni, chose Silvagni. What I would do is keep pressing the AFL to give him the Legend status and if they did, tell them to shove it up their collective arses.

Posts: 1953 19-May-2009 11:06:55	It is not the selection committees problem, it is the AFL's. The criteria does not allow for services to footy ie media work. It is restricted to playing career and coaching. As such the committee, much as I loath a lot of them cannot elevate him. All I know is that when I was growing up, Lou was footy. He transended the age barrier and really alinetated no one reagrdless of his Collingwood history. As a kid I always read Lou's kiss of death and looked forward to his crazy dares, my grandfather (non pies) also liked him. He helped to create the media careers that so many of these hacks now occupy. There is no doubt that he is a legend but under the criteria he cannot be admitted.

Posts: 2360 19-May-2009 11:20:30	Didn't deserve to get in Pubs. He is pretty ungrateful, when he missed selection in the TOC, he stormed out of the function. Now he has snubbed the AFL with the award they gave out. Played his best football when the majority of players were in WW2, will die a bitter old man, when the issue shouldn't have been forced on him.

How about the classless offer from the AFL of the consolation prize! yes Ro, I too found him to be an obnoxious arsehole, but I think that is beside the point

TARZANN did you watch footy classified last night - hutchy unloaded on caro and committee and said it was disgraceful etc. the AFL commission can over rule the HOF committee if they want to even caro admitted that last night.

Perhaps we should do a Fitzroy and join the Amateurs. A pure, well administered competition at about our level. Go back to Vic Park, play Saturdays at 2pm & be done with the costly cr@ppy football we are forced to endure at all hours of the week. Our own lostis plottis club won't buy it so we'll just call it Carringbush or Britannia.

Posts: 2922 19-May-2009 17:42:31 Moderator	Lou Richards is a legend when it comes to aussie rules, no doubt. There's equally little doubt that Lou ISN'T a legend when it comes to playing and coaching. The AFL hall of fame is currently there for what people contribute as players and coaches, not as media or administrators. I certainly believe that should be changed, that Lou Richards' media contributions are more important than his 250 games, that Andrew Demetriou's potential legacy as an administrator is far bigger than his actual legacy as a player, and that they deserve the same sort of recognition for off field exploits. But as it is currently, Lou Richards is lucky to have even made the HOF. The rules SHOULD be changed. But those enforcing the current rules, however little idea they may have (esp Sheahan, Tim Lane, etc), AREN'T being vindictive in their current assessment.

The rules should be changed, and Lou Richards should be made one of the legends, because his contribution to footy is absolutely worthy of it. Until the rules change, he shouldn't be made one, because his contribution as a player and coach absolutely isn't worthy of it.

If he had of accepted the award it wouldn't have ment that he couldn't continued lobbying for legend status. Lou is clearly a legend of the AFL and should be officially instated as one.

Posts: 9113 22-May-2009 17:17:44	HOF inductees: Paul Salmon, Ken Hands, Ross Oakley, Guy McKenna, Peter Carey, Chris Langford, Mark Bickley and the late Bill Morris were all granted entry to the Hall of Fame. I don't know about Morris and Hands, but I don't see much HOF about Langford, Bickley and P. Carey. Even Salmon for that matter.Watching highlight videos of any of them ('cept Salmon's first season) would send me to sleep

Posts: 45 22-May-2009 20:00:01	The AFL inducted 7 players last night into the AFL Hall of Fame surely they need to stop inducting so many players or they are at a risk of The Hall of Fame becoming not as prestigous as it should be.
